3 Scoops of Life vol 3

Small Steps, Big Results

This month, I’m convinced the concept of small steps, big results is true. Small steps really do lead to big results.

Before we get into it, though, what is 3 Scoops of Life? It’s my monthly series where I simply highlight three good things in my life.

  • One is professional.
  • One is personal.
  • One is an encouragement.

Oh, and I decided to film this month’s volume! Don’t worry. If you don’t have time to watch, I’m recapping the 3 scoops below.

Scoop 1: Professional

I worked long hours to meet a personal deadline to revise my book. Yes, it took Dove chocolates and lots of breaks, but I did it–yay!

Scoop 2: Personal

This is covered in depth in the video. The short version? I’m taking 10-15 minutes to do something crafty before “wasting” time at night after dinner. (I recently read Laura Vanderkam’s book, Tranquility by Tuesday, and it suggested doing something “effortful” before something “effortless.” You don’t have to give up television or scrolling through your phone to zone out, but first, do something that makes you happy. For me, crafty things make me happy. So here are a few things I’m trying: a Paint by Sticker project, coloring a paper tile with special markers, crocheting, or a jigsaw puzzle.

Scoop 3: Encouragement

Small Steps Big Results? YES! This is true. Every scene I forced myself to revise was a step toward meeting my personal deadline. And I felt GREAT hitting that deadline!

Plus, my evenings feel more satisfying now that I’ve added something crafty–even if it’s only 10 minutes–before my 20 minutes minimum reading fiction and then scrolling on my phone.

When we take the time, even 10-15 minutes, to do something we either enjoy or that needs to get done, our overall satisfaction with life increases.
