Jill Kemerer's July 2018 Goals

What Are Your July 2018 Goals?

I hope you had a fun-filled first week of July! It’s time to share our goals. I’ll start it off by reviewing what my June goals were, how I did, and what I’m aiming for in July.

Jill’s June 2018 Goals:

  • Finish plotting three books and write short synopses for each.
  • Write sample chapters for book one.
  • Health–exercise 4-5 days/week, track calories using MyFitnessPal app and stay within calorie range.

How did I do?

  • Finish plotting 3 books and write short synopses for each? CHECK! I was thrilled to finish them up.
  • Write sample chapters for book one? CHECK. Drafted. Needs to be revised–yay!
  • Health–exercise 4-5 days/week, track calories, stay within range? HALF CHECK. I did okay on the exercising, but the calorie tracking went bye-bye a few times!

Jill’s July 2018 Goals:

  • Content edit, revise and polish the fourth Wyoming Cowboys book.
  • Revise and polish the three-book proposal drafted in June.
  • Health–exercise 4-5 days/week, track calories, stay within range.

My writing goals have been heavy for months, so I’m looking forward to posting lighter goals in August!

How did you do last month?

What do you want to accomplish in July?

  1. I met my June goals for writing: finished current draft of TWO books, one the sequel to my first contracted book with Pelican, one the story I’m going to be shopping around at ACFW in September. I met my health goal for walking, but I don’t think I met it for healthy eating, sigh, although I DID NOT go off the diabetic wagon. I just leaned over the side. A lot.
I also stockpiled some guest blogs, a secondary goal. The fiction writing is always first.
MY JULY GOAL for writing is to work on the sequel to the ACFW book, I already have a draft, and to fine-tune the sequel to the Pelican book. I also have some business details to take care of, such as my Artist Fact Sheet and a new head shot.
Thanks, Jill, for keeping us on track.

    1. Congratulations, Kathy!! Two books drafted! Woohoo!! I hear you on the eating. All it takes is the decision to get back on track–you’ll do it. Good job setting your July goals!

  2. I decided to take July and regroup. I am going to expand my writing ministry by speaking to women’s groups. I have designed a one-page for my writing ministry and one for my book. I will be having a meeting with some friends on August 1st to ask them to help me compile a list of groups or places to approach.

I have been depressed about the marketing of my book. I also did complete a manuscript for a children’s picture book last month.

    1. So great to hear from you, Cecelia! I’m so glad you’re planning on speaking to women’s groups. You’ll be a blessing. Smart move to brainstorm venues with friends, too.

Marketing is depressing. 🙁 Try not to let it get you too down. We do what we can. Congrats on the children’s book!

  3. Jill, congratulations on all those checks! 🙂

    June:
    1. Read 8 books — Read 9
    2. Stepper 2-3 times per week — got that done 1 week, but managed to get a bit of walking in the other weeks.

    July:
    1. Camp NaNoWriMo: Reduced goal (due to editing job that popped up) of 35k words on a first draft.
    2. Editing: Job due on July 31.

    Happy July!
    Andrea

    1. Look at you, Andrea, outdoing your reading goal! Nice! How is your knee doing? It’s good to hear you’re getting around better! Reducing your goal when another project lands is always smart!

      1. Jill, thanks for asking! My knee is finally back to normal. Now it’s time to start getting back into decent shape again, since I’m able to become more active as my knee isn’t causing me to limit my movements.

  4. I truly enjoy your posts about writing goals. These posts are keeping me on track. Thank you for your encouragement. 🙂 I am still writing my Christian romance, working on another fiction story, self publishing a children’s book, and working on a non-fiction idea. I will be attending the She Speaks Studio conference in September.
