Let’s Set August 2024 Goals!

My writer productivity skyrockets when I set monthly writer goals, and it’s time to share my August goals. At the beginning of each week I break them down into daily tasks that fit my current schedule. Do you know how great it is to finish projects? Of course you do! For me, setting monthly goals makes it all possible.

Every month I share how I did the previous month as well as what my new goals are. Let’s get to it!

How Did I Do? Jill’s July Goals

  • Writing
  • Finish revising Wyoming Legacies book 6. CHECK!
  • Health
  • Exercise 5 days/week with more difficult sessions 3 of the days. CHECK!
  • Eat at least 5 fruits and/or vegetables every weekday. CHECK!
  • Personal
  • Finish making a Christmas garland for a gift. CHECK!
  • Check out a local farmer’s market. NO CHECK.

My goals were light last month. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in June and decided to take a trip in July. We had the best time! We toured the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, and spent a few days at Myrtle Beach. We both loved the Biltmore so much, we agreed we have to go back.

Although my writing goals were light, my part-time job was busy. It helps when they balance each other out. It’s hard when they both demand extra time.

My weight is at the high-end of my personal “acceptable” zone, and I’m not thrilled about it. I’m also not concerned about it. I want to enjoy my summer–what’s left of it!

No, I didn’t make it to the farmers market, but I did finish the garland, and I’m happy about that.

Jill’s August Goals

  • Writing
  • Draft most of a trade-length book.
  • Health
  • Exercise 5 days/week with more difficult sessions 3 of the days.
  • Eat at least 5 fruits and/or vegetables every weekday.
  • Personal
  • Check out a local farmer’s market.
  • Go to a Toledo Mudhens game.

We’re spending time with family off and on throughout the month, so I’m not sure how much I’ll get done. I want to soak up the sun on my deck a few afternoons and not cave to the pressure of performance. Summer is too short to let me pass it by!

Great news! Two of my books are on sale this month!

The Prodigal’s Holiday Hope is on sale for $1.99, and A Cowboy to Rely On is on sale for $3.99.

  1. Hi, Jill, I’m back. Had to take six months off to nurse my daughter, who died of cancer in June. A sobering experience, but God was with us and with her. I’m trying to get some momentum on my writing career again, so this came at a good time.
    My August goals:
Finish the rewrite on my contemporary Christmas story for Elk Lake.
Continue to work on the draft of my Irish-In-Steerage novel, possibly for Pelican/White Rose.
Scan in historic photos and do research for my next nonfiction local history book.
House: Do a THOROUGH fall cleaning, which hasn’t happened since we bought the place.
Personal/health: Start exercising again. And eating right. I lost 28 pounds while I was caring for my daughter. Because I could barely eat. And I didn’t exercise at all. So there’s work to do.
Thanks for keeping us on track!

    1. Kathy,
I’m glad you are able to get back to writing now. I have been thinking of you and praying for you. All the best with your writing and other projects.

    2. Oh, Kathy, I am so, so sorry about your daughter. I’m thankful you were able to take care of her during her final months, but how devastating. I hear you on God being with you throughout.

I’m glad you’re bouncing back, too.

I love your goals! You always inspire me!

  2. Jill, great job on the goals last month! So glad you got time away with your husband.

I’m currently enjoying a couple weeks off between edit jobs. Playing catch-up on household chores and blog article writing, but I’m also sneaking in more writing time than usual, which is a blast. It’s been a while since I could dedicate so many consecutive hours to playing with imaginary friends. Very happy to get reacquainted with them! I’m not really setting a bunch of goals this month, though I have some milestones in mind that I’d like to hit. Rest and relaxation is high on my list, which means not setting new deadlines, so to speak.

Hope you have a great August!

    1. Woohoo! I’m so glad you were able to take a little time off. Isn’t it wonderful when you can write extra instead of squeezing it in?

Yes, wait on the new goals. Summer will be over before we know it!

      1. Yes! I almost don’t even know what to do with this extra time. Haha! But I spent a lovely day with some local writing friends, and we each worked on some writing projects (when we weren’t chatting). Highlight of my break so far.
