Release Day for A K-9 to Reunite Them!

The K-9 her daughter needs…

The second chance their hearts deserve.

The last person service dog trainer Seth Hudson ever expected to see again was Caroline Bright, the woman who broke his heart. Tragedy shattered Caroline’s faith in him twelve years ago, but now the single mom is back to ask for help training a medical alert dog for her daughter, who has diabetes. Despite the tension between them, Seth can’t bring himself to refuse, even though training will mean spending lots of time together. Little Nina instantly bonds with Spud—and Seth can’t help adoring Nina. As old feelings resurface and their hearts begin to heal, can he show Caroline trust is worth rebuilding…especially if love comes next?

Was he ready to say goodbye to a decade of training service dogs?

Seth Hudson tuned out his siblings and cousins—affectionately referred to as “the squad”—as they trickled to the driveway after touring the house and pole barn on two acres near the outskirts of Fairwood, Wyoming. If the squad approved, Hudson Ranch Incorporated would purchase the property for him to open a dog-boarding center. He’d spent a good chunk of time putting together a business plan and scoping out available properties. Yesterday, he’d finally presented the business plan to the squad.

“You’re not seriously giving up training medical alert dogs, are you?” Kylie, his younger sister, who’d recently turned twenty-eight, stared at him with concern. They’d always had a strong bond, and over the years she’d helped him take care of dogs on weekends many times.

“Yeah, I am. It’s time.” A warm breeze tickled his bare arms. Perfect weather for late May—a prelude to summer. The green leaves of a tall oak rustled above the gravel drive. His straw cowboy hat shaded his eyes as the brilliant blue sky spread out before him.

Since moving to his cabin on Hudson Ranch in February, Seth had been trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. After over a decade of working for a national company in Dallas, he’d become highly skilled at training service dogs. But the travel was killing him, and he was ready to put down some roots—here, with his best friends, who happened to be family.

Last fall, the six of them had inherited their grandfather’s ranch and become equal partners in the company. While the cattle operation was the main focus, they were each given the opportunity to run a business of their choosing as long as the other five approved.

He just needed them to vote yes and the dog-boarding center would become reality.

“But it’s your passion.” Kylie’s eyebrows drew together.

“I’ll still offer training,” Seth reassured her. “Obedience. Puppy skills. That sort of thing.” He tried not to take her concerns personally. He appreciated the fact she worried about him, and, to be fair, he had misgivings about switching careers, too. But something had to change or he’d end up burned out. Unfulfilled.

Maybe he already was.
