Let’s Set July 2025 Goals!
My writer productivity skyrockets when I set monthly writer goals, and it’s time to share my July goals. At the beginning of each week I break them down into daily tasks that fit my current schedule. Do you know how great it is to finish projects? Of course you do! For me, setting monthly goals makes it all possible.
Every month I share how I did the previous month as well as what my new goals are. Let’s get to it!
As you can see, I skipped June’s goals–sorry, it slipped my mind!–so I’m reviewing May’s goals.
How Did I Do? Jill’s May 2025 Goals
WRITING:
- Finish working through copy edits for Creating a Writing Life, a nonfiction book I’ll be publishing in 2025. CHECK!
HEALTH:
- Eat low calorie, high protein foods on weekdays. CHECK!
- Exercise for 20-45 minutes every weekday morning. (I’m doing Heather Robertson‘s 5.0 12-week workout on M, W, F’s and each session is right around 40 minutes.) CHECK!
- Mini-workouts at least 5 evenings a week–a 10 minute walk, or 15 minutes on the stationary bike, a short YouTube workout, etc. CHECK!
PERSONAL:
- Walk outside as much as possible. CHECK!
- Continue identifying new birds in our backyard (we had a mockingbird stop by and an Eastern Towhee for a few weeks). CHECK!
- Read 2 books. CHECK!
- Get rid of old clothes I no longer wear. CHECK!
My goals were modest in May, and I wasn’t stressed about meeting them. June was a whole different story! Talk about busy.

HEALTH:
- Eat low calorie, high protein foods on weekdays.
- Exercise for 20-45 minutes every weekday morning.
- Mini-workouts at least 5 evenings a week–a 10 minute walk, or 15 minutes on the stationary bike, a short YouTube workout, etc.
PERSONAL:
- We have a vacation planned, and I want to relax and enjoy it as much as possible
- Sit on my deck and read!
- Go to a local farmer’s market
- Make blueberry jam
July is the rare month where I don’t have actual writing or revising on the schedule. I’ll still have plenty of work to do, but it will be a nice change from the norm. Whenever I have breaks like this, it gives my creativity some breathing room. I find it refreshing.
On the health front, I’m feeling pretty good about my eating habits and exercising. Not quite where I want to be weight-wise, but I’ll get there slowly but surely.
As for personal, I’m looking forward to the simple things. Farmer’s markets, soaking up sunshine while reading, and making yummy jam.
I’d love to hear your goals for July! Any challenges? Fun things planned? Let me know!
His New Companion is in stores now!
Good morning Jill,
Back in the goal-setting loop (or saddle, as I desperately want to start writing Westerns again).
— Health. Meeting my health goals of walking three times a week and eating salads for lunch. Unfortunately this is also the season for ice cream…but I’m holding my own.
— Writing. I have two WIPs. Meeting my goal of two chapters a month on the first one. Draft of the second one is done but desperately needs polish. To achieve these goals, I have to stick to my scheduling goal, which is be at the computer three days a week. It’s hard in summer and with a retired husband, but again, I am holding my own.
— Home. Keep up with garden and eventually harvest TOMATOES. So far so good. Unfortunately, I haven’t done anything with cleaning out the clutter. Too darn hot. A project for fall, or so I tell myself.
Thanks for keeping me on track.

Hi Kathy!
I, too, am enjoying ice cream a little too much! Good for you getting your walks and salads in!
And I am impressed you’re hanging in there on those chapter goals!
Ooh, tomatoes. Those have to be dealt with, for sure. You’ll be glad this winter!
Happy Fourth of July!
