A Simple Small Outing

Two weeks ago, it hit me that my days of being outside in a T-shirt and jeans were coming to an end for the year. Many of the items on my wish list for the summer were left undone. One of them was so minor, so simple, I was embarrassed that I kept putting it off.

Walk over the new bridge.

That was it. Walk over the new bridge.

Not complicated. Wouldn’t take long. And a very short drive from my house.

So, two weeks ago, I mailed out a slew of advance review copies for next Tuesday’s (!!) release–The Cowboy’s Christmas Compromise. Then I drove to the parking lot downtown and began my journey over the bridge.

The overcast sky allowed peeks of sunshine through every now and then. Morning traffic sped by. Everyone in a hurry to get to work.

As I made my way over, I paused at the lamp posts and marveled at the local concrete art work embedded in each. The river view was beautiful, too. Snowy egrets, a few mallards, great blue herons and one Canadian goose were hanging out in the shallows. The leaves had just begun to turn colors.

I didn’t have much time since I had a hair appointment, but I made it over the bridge and back.

That one simple small outing gave me so much satisfaction. Another item on my wish list crossed off.

On to the next adventure…

Do you have any simple small outings you could plan this week? I’d love to hear about them!
