Let’s Set August 2025 Goals!
My writer productivity skyrockets when I set monthly writer goals, and it’s time to share my August goals. At the beginning of each week I break them down into daily tasks that fit my current schedule. Do you know how great it is to finish projects? Of course you do! For me, setting monthly goals makes it all possible.
Every month I share how I did the previous month as well as what my new goals are. Let’s get to it!
HOW DID I DO? Jill’s July 2025 Goals
WRITING:
- Prep Creating a Writing Life for release in September. Check!
- Review production plan for next 6 months. Check!
- Final edits The Rancher’s Unexpected Match. Check!
HEALTH:
- Eat low calorie, high protein foods on weekdays. No check.
- Exercise for 20-45 minutes every weekday morning. Check!
- Mini-workouts at least 5 evenings a week–a 10 minute walk, or 15 minutes on the stationary bike, a short YouTube workout, etc. Check!
PERSONAL:
- We have a vacation planned, and I want to relax and enjoy it as much as possible. Check!
- Sit on my deck and read! Check!
- Go to a local farmer’s market. No check
- Make blueberry jam. No check
July was a busy, fun month. I wasn’t writing or revising a book–making this a RARE month!–but I had a lot of book-related duties to attend to. In less than one month, my nonfiction book for writers, Creating a Writing Life, releases! I am so excited to have this book out into the world.
On a health and personal front, I did great with exercising and ate well most of the time. But we had a vacation, and when we returned, I was eating leftover candy. So, the low-calorie, high protein goal flew out the window!
I did NOT make time to visit a farmer’s market or make blueberry jam. However, I did stop by a local produce stand, and I froze sweet corn for the winter, so I’m still happy.

I’m determined to enjoy every drop of summer. We’re blessed to have warm weather through September (usually), so I’m making the most of the next two months while maintaining a tight writing schedule. We’ll see how much I accomplish in August!
Well, Jill, I had a pretty good July. Met my WRITING GOALS and have only two chapters left in the draft for my third Hilltop Christmas book. I also finished the galleys for the second Hilltop book, which is out Sept. 3 from Elk Lake Publishing. I was successful in doing PR and lining up blogs, although you can never be on too many blogs.
Did manage to go through things in the house and “deaccession” myself of some things, but not nearly on the scale I wanted to. Oh, well.
I’m with you on the eating healthy on weekdays thing and I did manage to do the salad thing most of the month. I also started walking again. I get tired easily, but we’re getting there.
Goals for August:
— last two chapters of Hilltop draft
— Keep promoting Hilltop II
— Keep promoting my nonfiction local history book
— Physical: Keep eating the salads and other fresh produce. If I don’t do it in August, when the farm stands overflow, I never will.
Keep trying to walk. I’m doing a block now, would like to get back up to two blocks.
— Home: Continue paring down. The big question is, WHY am I keeping that?
Thank you, Jill, for keeping me on track.
