If you’re anything like me, six months from now you’ll be wanting a new book on one of these topics, but you won’t remember where you saw this list. That’s why I created a downloadable/printable PDF with links. It will be available on my FOR WRITERS page under the EXTRAS tab.

On a personal note, we dropped our daughter off at college last weekend, and my son begins his sophomore year or high school today. How did the summer fly by so quickly? Yikes!!

I would love to hear YOUR favorite books on writing. Drop me a comment! And have an awesome week!

  1. Hi Jill, My apologies for not being a better commenter for the last year. I have read most of your blogs! I like your new focus.

Over the last year I have worked my way through The Artist’s Way. It’s a great book for developing a daily habit of writing, overcoming doubts or frustrations, and freeing the God given talent within.

I had to laugh about the title of your sports book. One of my husband’s favorite Chistian sports friends can be very loud and dramatic at games. Maybe he should check It out!

    1. I was just thinking about you the other day, Bettie! I’m glad you like the new focus–I do, too! I will have to check out The Artist’s Way–Julia Cameron, if I’m remembering correctly? I think I read it years ago. Time to refresh! Thank you!!

  2. Awesome list of resources! Thanks for sharing. Patricia Bradley did an ACFW course on the loop titled 50,000 words in 30 days. I still refer to her lessons. Hadn’t heard of the book Take Off Your Pants. Will have to check that one out. I started using a bullet system that works really well. College students make their way back on campus today. Yay. It’s always crazy this time of year. Great post, Jill!

    1. Hi Sally! Patricia knows what she’s talking about–I’m glad you were able to take her course! Take Off Your Pants was a newer one for me, too, and I loved it!

Aww, congrats on your college kids. I agree–there’s a few weeks of absolute chaos! Hang in there!!

  3. Great list, Jill! I would add Stephen King’s On Writing to the list — great for motivation and simple ‘just write it’ type advice…The “idiot’s guide” to grammar (great for a quick ‘how do i___?’ answers) …
