Let's Set Goals December 2020 Jill Kemerer

Let’s Set Goals {December 2020}

My writer productivity skyrockets when I set monthly goals. At the beginning of each week I break them down into daily tasks that will work within my current schedule. Do you know how great it is to finish projects? Of course you do! For me, setting monthly goals makes it all possible.

Every month I share how I did the previous month as well as my new goals. Let’s get to it!

How Did I Do? Jill’s November Goals

  • Writing
  • Edit/polish/submit full manuscript of book 1 in new series. CHECK!
  • Revise/edit/polish proposal of book 2 in new series. CHECK!
  • Start reading a book on Wyoming history I purchased this summer. CHECK!
  • Health
  • Exercise 5 days/week. CHECK!
  • My mini-habits for this month: add one vegetable and one fruit each day and get off the couch for one minute in the evening. I’ve been doing these for the past two weeks, and I find when I get off the couch, I tend to stay off it for about 30 minutes. I end up stretching or walking in place or fidgeting, which is all good since I spend so much of my day sitting! CHECK! This is working great for me!
  • Other
  • Start Christmas shopping CHECK!
  • Continue reading fiction for a minimum of 20 minutes every weekday. NO CHECK. I wasn’t as consistent as I wanted to be, but I still ended up reading a few books.

Jill’s December Goals

  • Writing
  • Revise/submit non-contracted novel to my agent.
  • Determine overall goals for 2021!
  • Health
  • Exercise 5 days/week.
  • Keep mini-habits: add one vegetable and one fruit each day and get off the couch for one minute in the evening.
  • Other
  • Enjoy Christmas season.
  • Continue reading fiction for a minimum of 20 minutes every weekday.

As you can see, my goals are pretty light this month. I’ll be finishing the novel soon, and I’m taking the rest of the month to enjoy the Christmas season, set my goals for 2021, and catch up with friends I haven’t seen or talked to in a while.

How did you do last month? What would you like to finish this year?

Have a wonderful Christmas season!!

  1. I’m holding my own, thanks.
Health: still struggle with walking enough and eating right, but inching back to where I should be. I did better than I did in October so there’s that.
Home: did some weeding, cleaning out and organizing. Still a ways to go, we’ve lived here 40 years and we are pack rats. We’re too clean to be hoarders and we don’t have pets, but we definitely hang on to things. I really need to talk to my husband about the VCR tapes.
Writing: Yes. Tweaked my next novel, promoted my Christmas novella and passed in final MS for my nonfiction history book. Started research for my next series.
    Goals for December:
Health: salads or equivalent three times a week, walking five days a week.
Home; I’m going to leave it alone over the holidays. You can only clean so much.
Writing: Continue to research next series. It’s a big one, I’m toying with the Revolutionary War, so there’s a LOT to learn. Finish final draft of third novel in current series and submit. Research next nonfiction book. And revamp newsletter and Web site before I run afoul of the FCC.
Things are tricky right now because my husband cracked his shoulder and took early retirement, so he’s home. A Lot. And because of COVID, there aren’t that many places he could go even if he could drive. Fortunately he’s my biggest cheerleader and if I need time or space to write I only have to ask.
Have a blessed Christmas and thanks for keeping us on track.

    1. Researching is SO much work, but I love it! I know you’re going to enjoy researching the Revolutionary war! I’m sorry about your hubby, but you have a great attitude. Enjoy the rest of December!!
