Ice Cream, Bunnies and Tree Buds

I have a love/hate relationship with April in northern Ohio. I’m pretty sure it rained every day last week. On Saturday, the sun came out, the weather warmed, and I believed for a few hours summer might eventually arrive.

Tuesday night I bought my first ice cream cone of the season. It tasted so good. I’m definitely seeing a Slurpee in my near future.

As I write this, the sky is light gray. It’s dismal. Rain is on its way. But I saw a fluffy bunny in the yard, crocuses popping up at the neighbors, and did I mention green grass everywhere? Green!

Robins, cardinals and sparrows are flying like maniacs, singing and chirping, a sure sign we’ll be putting winter clothes away soon. But what really excites me? Tree buds. Red, purple, green–all will soon blossom with flowers and leaves. I can’t wait!

I still have my winter coat ready for action, but in another week or two, I might be able to shove it down the basement where it belongs.

What is April like where you live?

  1. April here in southern Oklahoma is actually quite lovely. 🙂 Temperature highs range from low 50’s to high 80’s and the weather alternates between sunshine and thunderstorms, which I love even though they do bring with them the threat of hail and tornadoes. The trees are green and flowers are blooming out… wildflowers are popping up like crazy! The three B’s — birds, butterflies, and bees — are everywhere! As I said: quite lovely! 🙂
If you check out my photo blog — http://photosbyaerykah.wordpress.com — you can see the flowers blooming out down here. 🙂

  2. April in east central Indiana is as you describe it. We are presently planning a trip to our son’s in south central Indiana. I can’t wait to see the trees budding out and the green grass ,even with the dandelions dotting the yards.

  3. Hi Jill, Well, I hate to rub it in, but April in San Francisco has been pretty darn wonderful!! Sunshine most days and we’re expecting a “heat wave” this weekend. I wore flip flops to Starbucks this morning!! My husband got a Slurpee after we worked out together last weekend. Of course, we are living in drought conditions which are not fun, but there is an upside and I’m basking in it right now. Have a good weekend, too!
